Michelle's main academic interests include:

• Optical instrumentation and applications in biology and medicine
• Development of TR-LIFS (time resolved laser induced fluorescence system)
• Apply TR-LIFS for detecting abnormalities and in FILM (Fluorescence Lifetime Imaging Modality)

• Design and implement clinical trials using optical biopsy for the detection of brain tumour margins
