Michelle's main academic interests include:
- Optical instrumentation and applications in biology and medicine
- Development of TR-LIFS (time resolved laser induced fluorescence system)
- Apply TR-LIFS for detecting abnormalities and in FILM (Fluorescence Lifetime Imaging Modality)
- Design and implement clinical trials using optical biopsy for the detection of brain tumour margins
