Mechanical drills are commonly used to cut the bone during the surgery, but their collateral thermal damage results from the friction and the ill-placed screws during surgeries lead to the laser ablation investigations. Ultrashort pulsed lasers gave good results in many studies; it shows the accurate ablation, so it can replace the mechanical tools. The efficiency of laser ablation is measured by ablation time, minimal collateral damage, ablated depth, and ablative precision. Last studies have investigated the effect of drilling parameters on cortical bone ablation. My research project will focus on increasing the efficiency of cortical bone drilling and characterization for trabecular bone drilling parameters.
