==== Optofluidics and MOEMS sensors ====

There is a PhD position available at the McMaster University for a research project developing optofluidics and MOEMS sensors for water quality analysis as well as other miniaturized sensing/imaging applications. 

The ideal candidate w/ the following qualifications are welcome: \\ 
  * Undergraduate in related disciplines in engineering or science
  * Master’s degree in MOEMS, MEMS, microfluidics, and/or optofluidics
  * In-depth knowledge and hands on experiences on microfabrication;
  *  Working knowledge on instrument interfacing programming using C or another program language;
  *  Working knowledge on image processing using Matlab.
  *  Good English communication skills, French is not required but welcome.

The PhD degree will be either in Biomedical Engineering or Engineering Physics depending on the candidate's background. The position will be fully funded for up to 48 months (not including industry internship) with a combination of research scholarships, teaching assistantships, and/or international student tuition bursaries. 

Starting time: September 2013 or January 2014


==== Multimodality automated fluorescence microscopy module for high content screening ====

There is a PhD position available at the McMaster University for a research project developing a multimodality automated fluorescence microscopy module for high content screening of cancer drugs. This project will be primarily conducted at McMaster with close collaboration with Sunnybrook Research Institute and an industry partner.

The ideal candidate w/ the following qualifications are welcome: \\ 
  * Undergraduate and master’s degree in related disciplines in engineering or science
  *  In-depth knowledge and hands on experiences on free space optics imaging systems;
  *  Good working knowledge and hands on experiences in optical design using Zemax or another ray tracing software (e.g. OSLO or CODE V);
  *  Working knowledge on instrument interfacing programming using C or another program language;
  *  Working knowledge on image processing using Matlab.
  *  Good English communication skills, French is not required but welcome.
 

The PhD degree will be either in Biomedical Engineering or Engineering Physics depending on the candidate's background. The position will be fully funded for up to 48 months (not including industry internship) with a combination of research scholarships, teaching assistantships, and/or international student tuition bursaries. An industry internship module (12 month or more) is required. This candidate should be eligible for the MITACS Accelerate program.

Starting time: September 2013 or January 2014

This position requires some travel to Toronto and Quebec City. 
 

==== Hyperspectral Imaging analysis of skin erythema after radiation therapy ====


  * EPI d'accueil/Research team: Ayin (equipe de recherche INRIA) & McMaster University

  * A propos de l'INRIA et du poste/context: 

This work will be conducted at McMaster with several extended visit (minimum 12 months total) to INRIA-SAM in Sophia Antipolis; through collaborations between the Ayin research team and the McMaster Biophotonics Research group. \\ 
**This position will be considered a contutelle PhD between McMaster University and Université Nice. ** \\ 

Both teams  have got close collaborations with industries such as Galderma in Sophia Antipolis, and the Juravinski Cancer Center in Hamilton. 

  * Profil recherché/Student profile: the ideal candidate should have the following qualifications: 

  - undergraduate and master’s degree in related disciplines in engineering or science
  - basic skills in understanding and use of statistical and applied mathematical tools (statistical analysis of time series and multidimensional data, stochastic models such as Markov random fields, point processes…) and imaging processing; 
  - a good knowledge of programming languages, Matlab and C in particular; 
  - knowledge of optical imaging systems; 
  - a good English communication skills; 
  - French is not necessary, but will be appreciated.

===== Post Doctoral Fellows =====

A postdoctoral fellowship position is available immediately upon filled.  This fellow will work with graduate students in McMaster as well as interact with engineers with our industrial partners. Specifically, the fellow will develop and optimize a optical microscopy and endoscopy prototypes for biomedical applications.  

**Required qualifications:**
  * RQ1. a recent PhD graduate in Optical Engineering/Physics/EE/ or related disciplines;
  * RQ2. experiences in instrument interfacing and computerized control;
  * RQ3. experienced programmer in C/C++;
  * RQ4. experiences in optical design using Zemax (or Code V/OSLO); 
  * RQ5. strong communication skills in English, French is not required but welcome. 

**Desired qualification:**
  * DQ1. Direct experiences in time-resolved optical measurements;
  * DQ2. hands-on experiences in subnanosecond photo detection systems;
  * DQ3. working knowledge of fluorescence microscopy and cellular imaging;
  * DQ4. experienced programer in Matlab for imaging processing and analysis;
