A gif is a series of image frames that are constantly repeating; in other words, its a moving image and can be made from a series of images or a short video clip. There are two ways to make a gif; from an existing video or from scratch using a series of images.
There are many resources to make gifs using video clips from popular video sites or from personal video files. One of the more popular resources for doing so is Giphy (it’s integrated into Facebook chat). Simply click on this link and follow the given instructions. To make gifs with this tool, you can paste in a URL from YouTube (or another video source) as well as upload your own video files.
