Using Creative Commons Licenses

When working in PebblePad, you may wish to use external resources such as images to enhance your project (such as a portfolio). When doing so, it's best to attribute the resource used to the original author to avoid copyright infringement. A Creative Commons license allows you to freely use and distribute copyrighted work with appropriate attribution.

An example of a CC-licensed attribution is: “DGJ_5652 - Brier Island Lighthouse” by archer10 is licensed under CC BY-SA 2.0

This is an ideal attribution because:

• It contains the title of the work and is linked to the original source
• It contains the author of the work and is linked to their profile page
• It contains the appropriate linked license determined by the original author

The author of the copyrighted work will often indicate in a link the type of CC license applied to the work. For example, Flickr images will often provide a link underneath the picture It's possible that the work you're attributing may not have a title. In that case, it's best to mention the medium of the work and include a link to the original source. The author may also not have a profile page to link to. However, it's best to link whatever is possible for best practice.

Option in Google Search to search for images with specific license If a work is marked as public domain, it doesn't necessitate attribution. Nevertheless, it's good practice to attribute the work to the original author, if only with a link, as it can help avoid future copyright disputes.
