The study also found a linear relationship between long term coffee drinking and risk of developing prediabetes, with a 100% increased risk of prediabetes in the participants who were heavy coffee drinkers. This however, was true for individuals with slow caffeine metabolizers, and this was according to the CYP1A2 genotype, that decides if the individuals can metabolize caffeine faster or slower.
