-Howdy, +
- +
-So last night I got the feeling that we were starting to wrap things up.  Just to be sure, I am going to have one last tutorial tonight.  It is going to just be an open-ended question and answer session. +
- +
-I hope to see you there, +
- +
-Best regards, +
- +
-Martin. +

-**Tutorial #4 (March 28, 5:30pm, JHE-A419)** +
- +
-Hey Folks, +
- +
-Tonight's tutorial is on.  We are focusing on ANOVA and linear regression.  If you have specific questions about your final assignment or test, please set up hours either this afternoon, or during the day any other day this week.  I will only be answering general questions tonight that are helpful to the entire group. +
- +
-Hope to see you there. +
- +
-Best regards, +
- +
-Martin. +

-**JASON'S OFFICE HOURS (FRIDAY MORNING, MARCH 25, JHE-A328)** +
- +
-Hey Class, +
- +
-In response to the large number of questions about assignment 2 and the exam, Jason has offered to be available tomorrow morning (Fri, March 25) for office hours in JHE-A328.  If you have any questions about your assignment, or about the exam, please feel free to come and talk to Jason.  He is happy to elaborate on what our expectations are (i.e. what you are expected to demonstrate in your solutions). +
- +
-Cheers, +
- +
-Martin. +

-**TUTORIAL #3 (March 24, 5:30pm, JHE-A419)** +
- +
-Hey, +
- +
-Thanks to everyone who braved the extra couple feet of snow that fell during the tutorial session tonight. +
- +
-To all that did not make it to tutorial, there will be a sort of re-run of tonight's session tomorrow.  Same bat time, same bat channel.  If you came to this evening's session, you are more than welcome to attend the tutorial tomorrow, just be forewarned that I will try to maintain a similar pace as was used tonight to give equal opportunity to those who could not make it because of snow.  Having said that, I find that hearing the same thing a few times over helps to reinforce material, and you may find that you pick up new things that you didn't catch the first time around, and at worst you solidfy your understanding of what you did catch. +
- +
-Hopefully those who didn't make it tonight are able to make it tomorrow. +
- +
-Thanks again for coming out and participating in the discussions. +
- +
-Best wishes, +
- +
-Martin. +
- +
-P.S. +
- +
-CHECK AVENUE OVER THE WEEKEND AND ON MONDAY TO FIND OUT ABOUT TUTORIAL #4 THAT WILL TAKE PLACE NEXT WEEK (ROOM & TIME T.B.A. - but probably the same) ABOUT MULTIPLE POPULATION COMPARISONS (ANOVA) AND LINEAR REGRESSION. +

-**EXTRA HELP TUTORIAL #2 (March 23, 5:30pm, JHE-A419)** +
- +
-Hey Folks, +
- +
-Thanks to everyone who made it out to tonight's tutorial session.  I was pleasantly surprised with how many students attended. +
- +
-Unfortunately, tonight's session was mostly taken up by discussions about the midterm and assignment so that I was unable to walk through the course methodically, as I had originally intended. +
- +
-I am going to hold a second tutorial session tomorrow night from 5:30pm on in JHE-A419.  Tonight, I said most of what I would like to say tomorrow night, but I feel that it was presented in a disjointed and random manner (because I was using the assignments to address the topics).  Tomorrow night, I would like to present similar material, but in a more systematic manner so that I can highlight the common principles between the various aspects of the course.  Hopefully, this will make the mess of information that I discussed tonight a little more coherent, and show the connections between concepts. +
- +
-Hope to see some of you tomorrow night. +
- +
-Best wishes, +
- +
-Martin. +

-**EXTRA HELP TUTORIALS** +
- +
-Hey, +
- +
-I've booked JHE-A419 tonight (March 22) at 5:30pm for an extra help session.  I assumed that 5:30 would be good to avoid conflicts with your other courses.  Depending on the response we get, I will announce more sessions.  I hope to see many of you there. +
- +
-Cheers, +
- +
-Martin. +

-**NEED SOME EXTRA HELP? COME TO TUTORIAL NEXT WEEK. (ROOM AND TIME - TO BE ANNOUNCED)** +
- +
-Hey Folks, +
- +
-PLEASE PASS THE MESSAGE TO THE OTHER EP3W04 STUDENTS THAT THERE WILL BE EXTRA HELP TUTORIAL SESSION(S) NEXT WEEK.  I am still trying to sort out the time and place, so check Avenue periodically for updates, and SPREAD THE WORD. +
- +
-I am sure that a lot of students are concerned about their marks in this course, and would like to do all that they can to pull them up now at the end game.  Your only option at this point is to get a good handle on the course material, and to show us that you really understand it.  This last assignment and the final exam are going to pull together various elements of the course, and so they provide a good opportunity for you to demonstrate the level of understanding that you are finishing the course with.  +
- +
-To help you out with achieving this level of understanding, I am offering next week to do a couple (probably/hopefully 2) optional tutorial sessions.  During these sessions, I would like to walk through the course and find out where the misconceptions are, and try to dymystify some concepts that students are struggling with (so it is important that you come for the entire session - or sessions - if you want to get the most out of the experience).  It is common in a statistics course for students to get bogged down by all of the various distributions and statistical testing methods so that it is hard to see the underlying principles, but rest assured that there are underlying principles to be found!  Hopefully, during the sessions we have enough time (and attendance) so that you at least know what are the central (hint, hint) concepts to understand. +
- +
-I would also like to give you a firm idea as to what we are looking for when we assess the methods by which you approach statistical analysis and the presentation of your statistical studies and solutions.  This will hopefully help you to write your responses in a way that gives you the most marks for the hard work you put into it.  If a student writes a lot about something that is tangential to the question, it can take a lot of work without resulting in any marks whatsoever, so it is crucial that you know what to focus on. +
- +
-Hopefully I will see a lot of you at the tutorial(s).  And remember to PASS ON THIS MESSAGE TO THE OTHER EP3W04 STUDENTS so that we can get as much of a turnout as possible.  If possible, send out some text messages or emails to your friends in the course and ask them to pass it along to their friends, and so on. +
- +
-Best regards, +
- +
