Michelle's main academic interests include:
  * Optical instrumentation and applications in biology and medicine
  * Development of TR-LIFS (time resolved laser induced fluorescence system)
  * Apply TR-LIFS for detecting abnormalities and in FILM (Fluorescence Lifetime Imaging Modality)

  * Design and implement clinical trials using optical biopsy for the detection of brain tumour margins\\
